Joe Shrager

I am a professor in the medical school and Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.  I enjoy both doing surgery to help patients and carrying out research on the respiratory muscles (i.e., the diaphragm).  My wife Dottie and I grew up in the Philadelphia area, and I did my medical and scientific training at Penn and Harvard.  We moved the family here in 2008 – our 3 kids barely remember the east coast!  We love the access to nature and outdoor sports that the bay area provides – especially skiing, mountain biking, and golf.  Among our children are a musician, a coder, and a Stanford undergrad.
