Traffic Issues Including Junipero Serra Blvd. Traffic Calming

For over a decade, SCRL and campus homeowners have been concerned about traffic issues, including traffic safety concerns about Junipero Serra Boulevard ("JSB") and Stanford Avenue.

For many years, SCRL Board members and other SCRL homeowners participated with Stanford officials on a "JSB Task Force," and its predecessor organization "MTAG" (Multi-Jurisdictional Traffic Advisory Group), working to address a variety of traffic and safety issues. SCRL Comments on Traffic Issues: Environmental Review Process for Stanford's New GUP/Community Plan 

In January 2000, SCRL submitted a letter with comments on traffic issues as part of the County's Environmental Review process for Stanford's new General Use Permit/Community Plan: SCRL Letter on Traffic Issues, Jan. 2000. (The SCRL letter was sent to Sarah Jones, Santa Clara County Planning Office, and David Neuman, University Architect and Associate Vice Provost, Stanford University.)

JSB "Traffic Calming"

In October 1998, after years of work on JSB traffic safety issues, SCRL contacted the County about a  potential road redesign ("traffic calming" measures) that would help address the significant safety hazards along JSB. In December 1998, SCRL representatives met with Santa Clara County officials to request that a "traffic calming" program be implemented along JSB. Stanford University also has supported these efforts: Stanford Letter to County, Oct. 1998. In 1999, the County hired consultants (DKS Associates) to assist in an analysis of JSB safety hazards, and to evaluate whether a traffic calming program would be appropriate for JSB. The County and its consultants held a public meeting on JSB concerns in January 2000; SCRL representatives and Stanford homeowners attended and spoke at the meeting. The consultants recently completed their final report on the project. Please contact SCRL if you would like a copy of the report by DKS Associates.In 1999, the SCRL Board authorized the expenditure of up to $10,000 for consulting services to assist with the traffic calming efforts. Patrick Siegman of Siegman & Associates has been working as a consultant for SCRL over the past year. On behalf of SCRL, Patrick Siegman recently submitted a Memorandum to the County on Traffic Calming and on the County Consultant's report.
